Not bad at all!,
This unit is not bad at all!
Installation was average for this type of unit. I have a 2005 Ford F150, so for the video cable, it came from the head unit (Pioneer P3400bh) I just followed the floorboards to a grommet towards the back of the cab. Routed the cables following the rear light lines (making sure to secure every 1-2 ft) and to the unit on the license plate.
The power was a little more difficult. The cables are TINY. I had no connection tappers that were that small (so smaller than 22 gauge). Ended up having to mod a tapper so that I soldered the power cable/ground to the metal part of the tapper and tap into the Black/pink strip reverse light cable and ground. Ended up making a solid connection and the camera only turns on when I reverse.
For California, We have a month/dmv tag on the top left and right of the license plate. This WILL cover them up. So I cut the extra plastic off the camera so it wouldn’t cover those tags. Still works fine.
Quality is not bad at all for a CMOS camera and night vision is superb. Don’t know about actually waterproofing, but we’ll see!
All-in-all, for how cheap this was, it’s perfect.
