If you want an in dash DVD unit without navigation, then this stereo is perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . The touch screen is smooth and the interface is very easy to navigate around. When you plug in your iPod via usb cable you can control it via the touch screen. This is probably my favorite feature because its so easy and functional. The DVD picture quality is excellent and it plays DVD movies and music. Another great feature is that you have a USB in put that allow you to connect any portable thumb drive with wma or mp3 formatted music and simply play it. to top it off the crossover system in this unit is phenomenal

Do Not Buy This! – Especially for IPOD use!, June 17, 2010

I installed this a week ago and uninstalled it and returned it. I will break my review down into sections: (I normally don’t write reviews on products I buy unless I really like or dislike them (in this case dislike):

Installation : Standard (easy) – The only thing you need to do to bypass the parking brake being required to watch videos is ground the parking break wire anywhere!

Sound: I have an Acura RSX-S with BOSE speakers and stock head unit – this sounded SO much better than the stock head unit – I could finally hear the stock sub and it made the speakers sound amazing with much more clarity and detail! The equalizer works great and the presets (XPLOD was my fav) sounded really really good.

Video: Great resolution – DVD’s look really good.

Ease of use : This is where this unit needs major improvement – Navigating this thing is a pain! It was very frustrating, not to mention unsafe because it takes your eyes off the road for longer than needed, especially navigating through your IPOD library which I will get into in the next session. Bottom line is the screen touch controls were not responsive enough and navigating through the unit is choppy – as in the processing of the unit is slow – very frustrating! I’m sorry but if the unit is not easy and comfortable to use there is no point of having it!

IPOD use: Horrible! Navigating through my library is soooo frustrating and takes forever! When I get into my library and start navigating through artists, each screen takes at least 5 seconds to load when i scroll down – it is wayyy to choppy and slow and unsafe for driving – I was spending too long staring at it waiting for it to load! Also, there is no alphabetical listing for Artists. Also – say your playing a song on the album you selected and want to navigate to a different album by the same artist – you have to start the WHOLE process of going through your library again to find the artist and album – very very frustrating and time consuming. Also some buttons I would have to hit multiple times (such as the go back button) in order for them to work.

Bottom line: Do not buy this, especially for IPOD use! Ease of Use and IPod Navigation is horrible and if your like me having a touch screen that is user friendly is very important. Trust me, you will spend most of your time frustrated or waiting for screens to load, especially for IPOD. I just got the Pioneer AVH-P4200 and yes, it is a couple hundred more, but DEFINITELY worth it! It is so much faster (everything and IPOD navigation is flawless and sooo much faster), MUCH easier to use, and just feels much more responsive and solid. Plus it has a bigger screen. I’m definitely keeping the AVH-P4200.

This review is from: Sony XAV-60 6.1″ inch In-Dash Touchscreen DVD/CD/MP3 Receiver (Electronics)

It’s only been a week.

This is my second Sony system in my second 1998 Buick Riviera. The first, not the subject of this review, was a 1999 Sony Mobile ES system, with external high power amps, very high quality speakers, 12″ subwoofer, the works.

This unit, the Sony XAV-60 sounds better.

I want high quality music in my car; I don’t want thump, nor flashing stuff. I know where I’m going, so I didn’t care about navigation.

I mistakenly thought that the XAV-60 would provide me with a clean dash install, CD/DVD/iPod and Bluetooth support for a wireless phone. I was wrong about the Bluetooth. I didn’t figure that out until after I picked the car up from the installer.

And yet, I made the correct choice with the XAV-60. It’s gorgeous. The screen and display is amazing.

The sound – I’m using the XAV-60′s onboard amps, don’t have a subwoofer, have some cheap 5 1/2 in the front doors, and some Kicker 6×9 in the rear deck – that’s it.

It sounds miraculous. The EQ selections are spot on and produce noticeable changes in the sound reproduction. The center channel simulation works .. very well. The sound in this car is far superior to my $3500 system in the other Riviera.

iPod integration is very good, but not terrific. Perhaps it will get better with time and with more time spend organizing my iPod.

THIS DEVICE DOES NOT SUPPORT, NOR OFFER AN ADD-ON SUPPORT FOR BLUETOOTH DEVICES.

Just so you know.

And, I don’t care. I’m not making calls in the car anymore, ’cause there’s too much amazing music to listen to.
